I've Quit Art

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 19, 2008, 5:47 AM
I know that this is a little overdue since I quit my art course at Christmas, but I still feel the need to update my journal anyway since the last time was April last year.

Right, so finished Secondary School in September last year and afterwards I went to college. I started up with Combined Arts, which I was pretty excited about at first. But then I started the course. It was hell. The only reason that I stayed there was because I had made the best friends I had in a long time there. I stayed in the course, and finished up my first project. I amazingly finished it along with finishing my Graphics project.

So, I was planning to stick to it, but then I got my grade and my whole world collapsed. I know that seems a little over dramatic but that was how I felt. I got a D for my project that I worked so hard on, even though I hated the course. And it didn't help that it was a fucking miserable day as well, I went home in the dark and raining and my bus was last. I was so upset that I cried as soon as I got home, and I have NEVER cried over a grade in my school life. So that was the end of it all for me. I quit right after that.

So now, about a month later, I am much happier. I'm only doing Graphics now which I got an A in on my first project and that I enjoy so much. Although the college has now destroyed any passion I had for art, I now know that my heart lies with Graphics, Fashion and Graffiti. So, it was probably a blessing in disguise that I now see. I had my moment in the sun for art back in Years 10 and 11. Those art books will always be my best work.

Tate Modern

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 13, 2007, 3:44 AM
Guess where I went yesterday. :D That's right, the Tate Modern.
It's the second time I have been and this time was so much better. For one, the 5th floor was actually open, and we had the tickets to go to the Gilbert and George Exihibition.
I went with my mum, train up to London from Havant and back. Ohh and if you ever go to the Tate Modern, go and have lunch at the Gorment Pizza Bar on the Thames path, me and my mum shared an awesome pizza. :lick:

Oh, and the artists I need to check out before I throw away the page of them on my desk are...

Roberto Matta Echaurren
David Alfaro Siqueiros
Francis Picabia (the piece Otaiti is gorgoeus)
Juan Uslé
Marlene Dumas
Bernard Frize
Tacita Dean
Natalya Goncharoua
Christopher Richard Wynne Nevinson
Richard Hamilton
Chéri Chéri (Joesph Kinkonda)
Bodo (Camille-Pierre Bodo)
Dieter Roth
Robert Rauscenberg

Oh and of course Gilbert and George. :D
But I have to say that I, and my mum for that matter, enjoyed the older stuff from the 70's more than anything from their exihibition.

Oh and I brought a book about the great H.R. Giger from the Tate Shop(the guy that designed Alien for the Alien films) and a Gilbert and George bag for college.
